The Elf King is a story about a boy named Kai who happens to be heir to the Elven throne, although he doesn’t know it at the time. Like every little boy, he just wants a family of his own. He is taken in by Anna and Henry Trumble after the young boy has been left without father or mother. His mother has been murdered and left lying in a ditch, and his father is no where to be found.

From the start, it is evident this boy is different than the others, his amazing speed at which he can travel as well as his pointed ears. Anna and Henry Trumble, the elderly folks who adopted him, see him as someone to help them on their farm as they are getting on in years. Fortunately for Kai, he is befriended by those who would become like his own family and help him find the road to his own destiny. The road to his destiny is filled with twists and turns and pitfalls. The world of Elves and humans become intimately entwined.

As I read, I felt I was being taken back in time, transported into another realm and suspended there until I had completed the book, at which time I was greatly relieved to discover I had Book 2 at hand. The characters are interesting and there are a lot of good twists and turns. The narrative description is good as well. The book is a great read. It’s the type of book that before you start, you get your beverage of choice, put your feet up for a while, and plan a relaxing adventure into another time and place, an escape from the stresses of the day. I am looking forward to reading the remaining books in this series. — Grace Lightfoot, Associate Editor
